Description:
Following a sold out concert, Vallejo Symphony announces their 2017/2018 Season, featuring Filipina pianist Cecile Licad in three concerts at the Empress Theatre highlighting Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Chopin, Shostakovich, and Saint-Saens.
VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA - The Vallejo Symphony is thrilled to announce their 2017/2018 season, featuring renowned Filipina pianist Cecile Licad as the guest artist in a three concert series. The season will highlight Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Saint-Saens, Shostakovich. All three concerts will take place at downtown Vallejo's historic Empress Theatre, following the Symphony's sold-out debut at the Theatre on March 12, 2017.
2017/2018 Season Featured Artist Cecile Licad was seven years old when she approached the piano. Vallejo city Council member Rozzanna Verder-Aliga, a schoolmate of Licad's, remembers it clearly: It was electrifying. We knew immediately that she was a prodigy. At seven years old, Licad made her debut as soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Philippines. Then, she began to receive international recognition. She was one of the youngest musicians to ever receive the prestigious Leventritt Gold Medal, and her career took off. A piano recital at Carnegie Hall followed soon after.
Now a Steinway artist, Cecile Licad is coming to the Vallejo Symphony to play under Music Director Marc Taddei. Verder-Aliga, her husband Nestor, and Tony Ubalde are chairing a committee to sponsor Cecile Licad under the Vallejo Symphony's Featured Artist Program at three spectacular performances to be held at Vallejo's historic Empress Theatre.
As Taddei is known for thematic programming, the Symphony series will also present the three tone poems of Tchaikovsky after Shakespeare, as well as three Mozart symphonies.
Taddei is thrilled to be working with Licad, and grateful for the Filipino-American community's support in this daring undertaking. The New Yorker calls Cecile Licad a pianist's pianist says Taddei. We call her an artist with a blend of daring musical instinct and superb training, and we are thrilled that she is coming to Vallejo.
